Dog exercise activities ‘lead to canine contentment’

September 23rd, 2009

Strapping on a dog harness or lead and heading out for a walk can lead to perfect canine contentment, if one commentator is to be believed.

Writing for Tampa Bay Online, Kristen Levine suggested outdoor activity can "maintain mind, body and soul".

She claimed autumn and winter could be the "perfect time" to hit the park with an animal in tow.

The columnist pointed towards recently research by Kansas state vet Susan Nelson, who stated working dogs should be given more opportunities for outdoor activity, adding it can be the key to avoiding animal obesity.

"Dogs also need an outlet to relieve their energy or else they may develop destructive behaviour. Your dog is going to be happier … if it receives adequate exercise," she explained.

The Eagle Tribune has previously claimed dog walking can build bonds between animals and their owners, adding devising "fun games" can keep the jaunts interesting for both parties.ADNFCR-2611-ID-19375141-ADNFCR
