If pet owners want to exercise their canine when they go out cycling, they should invest in a special dog lead designed for bikes.
Speaking to the Mercury News, Chris Hildebrand explained that her boxer – called Bear – was a particularly energetic animal who needed regular physical activity.
Walks in the park were not enough for the pet, but she said she was hesitant to ride her bike with him until she discovered a dog leash designed specifically for the activity.
The device was praised for allowing the rider to keep their hands on the handlebars at all times, while keeping the animal close enough so it does not get in the way of the wheels.
"I am only exercising him this way for short trips. I go at a slow but even pace during the cool hours of the day and we have our water stops," Ms Hildebrand stated.
"Bear is securely fastened, I am very balanced and Bear gets his exercise."
Other items that may help pets get their exercise could include sled dog equipment, dog life jacket or CaniCross harness.
