Dog scooter riding ‘great way to train sledding canines’

October 6th, 2009

Those looking to train a group of canines for sledding sports may be advised to invest in a dog scooter, if one expert is to be believed.

Writing for the Continental Kennel Club, Daphne Lewis explained strapping a lead dog into the contraption can be a "fine way" of getting them into shape.

She added animals who are going to be part of a team can build their confidence by trekking with the vehicle.

Ms Lewis suggested scooters can be highly versatile, outlining how even retired sled dogs can feel the benefit.

She stated the design of the contraption is key, claiming it is easy to pull when at ground level.

Her column recommended taking canines out in cool or cold weather, as this can help them to avoid overheating.

In related news, dog scooter designer Mark Schuette told the Daily Mail riding on one of the vehicles can have exercise benefits for both animal and owner.ADNFCR-2611-ID-19395796-ADNFCR
