A woman who has completed the Iditarod sled dog race has suggested the only way a person can realise their true potential is to take on a huge challenge.
Laura Daugereau made the remark while visiting students at Brighton School, where she offered a lesson in self-discipline and achievement, the Edmonds Beacon reported.
The competitor took her canine companions along to the classes, where she transposed her experiences on the ice and snow into relevant advice for children.
Her central message was how tackling mountains with a team of dogs can be used as a metaphor for success in life.
According to the news source, a number of people keen to hear her story turned up to the lecture.
"You never know what you can truly accomplish until you are pushed beyond the limits of your wildest imagination," Ms Daugereau remarked.
In related news, another female who has appeared at the Iditarod has been described as an inspiration.
Kim Darst suffered hypothermia at this year’s race but plans to return in 2010, according to the Express-Times.
