The Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain (SHCGB) is to kick off the new year with a number of sled dog and dog scooter races.

It is to meet at Greystoke Forest in Penrith, Cumbria, on January 2nd 2009 for a two-day rally.

Members interested in packing up their dog harnesses and heading to the event have until December 19th 2009 to register their interest.

Officials are predicting there will be wide, hard-packed trails, with the exact track distance still to be determined.

"[It is an] undulating course, although most gradients are slight. Booting should not be necessary, although please check trail conditions on the day," they said.

Junior races are also set to take place during the event, with an award ceremony taking place after the close of the competition.

Earlier this month, the SHCGB launched its charity Christmas cards, proceeds from which will go to its welfare organisation.
