Animal owners have been reminded that chocolate should not be included in a dog diet at any time of year.
With the festive season looming on the horizon, the RSPCA underlined the importance of never giving this type of sugary treat to a canine, as it contains a potentially fatal poison.
Specially-designed chocolate for dogs is a much better option, the charity said.
On December 25th, meanwhile, people should not be tempted to let their dog munch on the bones from a turkey, as they could cause them to choke.
"Although it is hard to resist the pleading eyes of your pet, the best Christmas present you can give to your pet is time not treats," the non profit body added.
In related news, US medical professional Dr Marty Beckett offered his advice to Nutro Products on dog diet best practice.
He said offering the "right combination" of foods can help to maintain canines’ wellbeing.
