SHCGB advises sled dog competitors: Bring shovel to Aviemore

January 18th, 2010

Sled dog racers planning to compete at the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain’s (SHCGB) Aviemore race this weekend (January 23rd and 24th 2010) have been advised to bring a shovel.

A post on the organisation’s Twitter page made the call due to the fact there is still a lot of snow in the Scottish Highlands, with more expected to fall over the next five days.

Some 200 teams from across the UK are set to make the trip to the meeting, which is one of the biggest dates on the mushing calendar.

It takes place on circuits around Loch Morlich, which is found near the Cairngorms mountain range.

Rally dogs expected to be on show include Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Greenland Dogs and Samoyeds.

Last year’s races were won by the likes of Steven Hopley, Adrian Tilsed, Matt Emery, Liz Ballantine, Lee Hodgson, Stuart Lindsay and Bren Clarkstone.

Callum Winning and Ryan Patterson were victorious in the junior events.
