Competitors at the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain’s (SHCGB) Aviemore rally over the weekend (January 23rd and 24th 2010) enjoyed perfect conditions.
Organiser Judy Wakker told Sky News the snow in the Scottish Highlands created a trail akin to the southern Alps, adding that the mood among mushers was buoyant.
She explained that racing on the white stuff as opposed to dry land offers a softer landing and is less dirty.
Ms Wakker remarked: "This is a fantastic opportunity for us and the dogs – it’s what they were bred for.
"To get the opportunity to run sled dogs on snow in Scotland is amazing."
One of the biggest dates on the UK mushing calendar, the race regularly attracts more than 200 teams from all over the country.
Those taking part race around Loch Morlich by the Cairngorms mountains at the circuit, which caters for both adult and junior sled dog competitors.
