Do You feed raw meat?
GR: Yes sometimes I feed raw meat but predominately I feed seal or walrus blubber with kibble. Yearly my dogs go through 6 tons of Nutrience kibble, 30% protein and 20% fat. They look terrific and work wonderfully on it.
Where I live we have seven sometimes eight month sledding season and it dips down to the minus 40s bringing on superb dog coats. My dogs have a double pelage up to 20 cm deep. When their fur sheds it’s called blowing and it can happen any time of year but usually it’s a summer occurrence that requires huge calorific effort on the dog’s part. At this point I feed more fat. I also help the blowing process by grooming them all throughout the summer. I usually end up with about 9 kg of groomed hair by September.
