A popular Iditarod volunteer is set to ship in food supplies for the Last Great Race next month.
Jean Blakeney, who usually offers her services at the event, will not be able to attend due to ill health this year, according to the Vicksburg Post.
However, this has not stopped the mushing fan from helping organisers from afar, as she is delivering five dozen tamales to the event.
The tasty treats will be distributed to points around the course, meaning mushers and their sled dogs will be able to enjoy a good meal as they complete the 1,000-mile circuit across Alaska.
She explained her degenerative disc disease will keep her from the March 6th 2010 event, but she hopes to return in 2011.
Lance Mackey, Jeff King and Newton Marshall could all benefit from Ms Blakeney’s gesture during the event.
Mackey is hoping to win his fourth Last Great Race in a row.
