SHCGB musher: Sled dogs loved Aviemore

February 22nd, 2010

Sprinting around the Aviemore track in their dog harnesses, Hazel Mead’s sled dogs were in their element last month.

The Westbury musher has recounted her experiences of the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain (SHCGB) race in an interview with the Wiltshire Times, where she underlined how much fun her canines had at the event last month.

Held between January 23rd and 24th 2010, the event is one of the biggest races on the UK mushing calendar.

Ms Mead said finishing 18th in her class topped off a great weekend for her dogs, who relished the snowy conditions.

"One of them in particular was grabbing the snow and playing with it," she recalled. "It was the first time in 15 years they had snow and so we were racing on proper sleds. It was fantastic."

Explaining how she prepared for the event, Ms Mead said her sled dogs need plenty of exercise, meaning she is often out with the dog lead near her home in Westbury.

The SHCGB has a number of this season’s events left to run, including the South Alwen Forest meeting in north Wales on March 13th 2010.ADNFCR-2611-ID-19628303-ADNFCR
