Snow or Bust! That’s the title for the Aviemore blog. And its was just that “tail”. I travelled up on Thursday night and arrived on Friday morning 800miles later, and several tubes of Pringles… Did you know they contain laxative. However, I did not suffer bowels of steel you see. I stayed at the Hilton, hmm, it was OK, however having the dogs van and car park bound for the weekend was not the best solution. The training day Friday, at Feshiebridge gave me a chance to run the dogs who were not racing, a bit more like a challenge course than a training track however, beggars cannot be choosers, it was there and made available.
Race day, well the hill was a killer as usual, but we put in a respective time, my lead bitch seemingly slightly under par with FIFI my no2 being top form again. After the first day we were lying in 12th and the 2nd highest all bitch team, not bad for 2 little girls pulling one large bloke. Racing on a sled was fun, it did become very clear that having one of the new steerable sleds was making a big difference to the underpowered teams. Better start saving up £1550 now then, Argh!!
Day 2 well back to day one you remember the Pringles, I contracted food poisoning and spent the next 10 hours on the loo……….. great race preparation, not! I raced on Sunday even if a little shaky from the illness, going a minute faster, wow, and gained a place. The Girls did well, and we limped back down south, tired but having competed at Aviemore on snow for the first time in 15 years, was it worth it? YES! My bowels have since recovered, and its nearly time for puppies again.
