Ok the Wyedean Quest blog, well keen readers here goes the only race with 4 stage stop races in 36 hours in the UK, can I cope? can the dogs cope? well the first race starts 18:30 Friday night and I finish work at 4pm so for me its 5 races the first being to get to Gloucester in time for the start.
Phew! just made it in time however thanks go to Adam and Gwynn for helping get the dogs out prepped and race ready within minutes, traffic getting past Gloucester on a Friday night was not good!
Stage one went well. It was a tough twisty trail with some fast sections, all was well and we were in fifth place, against some pretty tough opposition.
Stage two, a gentle uphill speed run, the dogs worked hard and we secured our 5th place by pulling away from our closest competition by over a minute, well done doggies.
Stage three the 2nd night race. The speed run, it’s the same course as earlier but in reverse at night, we had a blinder! The 4 have never run so fast as a team, Daddy was a happy bunny, and we were up one place and chasing 3rd… Barbara watch out hunny were on yer tail!
Stage four was a twisty tough trail, but in the day light so you can see how scary it was!! My dogs (siberian huskies) were spent, well that’s not quite true, Foxy and FiFi were ok a little tired but nothing to write home about, Lola being a little shorter in the loin had given her all the previous night and was tired, as was Nanook my 10 years old male, for him it was not possible for race speed, desperate to go out still but not enough in the tank to go at the speed, we dropped back to 5th in a race where you can have a pool of 8 dogs, I have four so I ran four, watch out four next year though Indie and Bomber will be old enough to race.
I was very proud to come 5th and we had a great weekend thanks to Matt for organising probably one of the most exciting and fun races of the season.
A big well done also to Ian, who ran 2 siberian huskies four times put in some outstanding times and came 2nd
