Hans Gatt takes Yukon Quest form into Iditarod

March 10th, 2010

Yukon Quest 2010 winner Hans Gatt has taken his winning form into the Iditarod.

The Whitehorse musher is out in front of the Last Great Race after four days among a familiar chasing pack.

He is currently over an hour ahead of Cim Smyth, while Mitch Seavy, Jeff King, Hugh Neff and Lance Mackey are all in contention in the top ten.

There are 66 of the original 71 sled dog racers remaining on the course, with the majority having been through the Rohn checkpoint.

Jamaican rookie Newton Marshall is holding his own down in 48th place, while Jane Faulkner is currently bring up the rear in 66th.
The mushers have around another ten days to go before reaching the finishing line in Nome.

Ninth-placed Mackey is likely to make a charge towards the head of the pack as he bids to add to his three Iditarod titles, but is likely to face stiff competition from a strong chasing pack.
