A woman who has completed the Iditarod twice is to share her experiences at a meeting in the US tomorrow (April 1st 2010).
Pam Flowers has been invited to speak at the Cromaine District Library, where she is expected to explain why she quit her job as a respiratory therapist for a life of dog sledding, according to the Livingston Daily.
Along with being a well-known face at the Last Great Race, she has also completed solo mushing missions across the Arctic, covering 2,500 miles.
The library’s Youth Services director Jeanne Smith said the local community is looking forward to welcoming Flowers at the talk.
"She called and said she would be in the area and I thought she would be fascinating for our local residents to meet and listen to," Ms Smith remarked.
Iditarod racers often share their expertise in an educational context – teacher Melanie Moon recently used her husband Pat’s appearances at the Last Great Race as part of her lessons at Field Elementary School, according to the Park Ridge Advocate.
Pupils tracked the distances covered by mushers and composed a theme song for the event.
