Kim Mazzucca fantastic experience at Bodmin Moor

April 24th, 2010

This was a fantastic experience. This race originally started out as a village fun run, and has always allowed runners to take their dogs round with them. Perfect!

With the Trophe des Montagnes looming up in a little over 4 months time, this was a great opportunity to get some serious training and miles under our belts. We canicrossers set off at the back of the field,so as not to get in the way of the runners. However, my 2 dogs had their race heads on and we were soon passing runner after runner. I wore a bell on my belt so that people know I’m coming up from behind! The Tors, (all 5 of them) were killer steep, though reasonably short. This constant steep up and down, followed by long stretches of open moor made it one of the toughest 10 mile races I have ever run! I swear they were Cornish miles too, as it also seemed like the longest 10 miles I’ve run! We finished up as 2nd female runner home overall (1st with a dog) and 1st veteran lady (not sure I like to admit to that one!)

For this longer distance race I ran with the ultra light weight canicross lines, as anything that saves a bit of weight must be a help to the dogs. We came away with 2 fab trophies, and whilst I had a great run, unfortunately one of my team mates (we dubbed ourselves team Menopaws, being women of a certain age!!) twisted her ankle badly, and although she finished, she later discovered she had fractured her ankle. That said and done, we had huge fun over the weekend and are definitely going to do it again next year.

Regards Kim
