Kuskokwim 300 ‘to raise money by selling miles’

May 13th, 2010

An Alaskan sled dog race is aiming to raise extra funds by selling miles of the track for sponsorship.

The Kuskokwim 300 (K300) race committee has announced the third year of its Annual K300 Mile Program, which is seen as a vital way of supporting the event, reports the Tundra Drums.

By purchasing miles along the route, individuals can help safeguard the future of the event in a time when many similar races are struggling financially.

The K300 has been able to offer the same level of prize money since 1996, thanks to various fundraising efforts.

Businesses are not permitted to buy K300 miles, but are instead encouraged to become an official race sponsor.

Those purchasing miles will get membership of the race, a certificate, a ten per cent discount on merchandise and recognition on the race poster.

There are now almost 1,000 Facebook fans of the event, which is run every January.
