Mushing fans who head to Alaska to have a look at the Iditarod course have been urged to check out everything else the state has to offer.
According to a column in the Star-Telegram, a photography tour of the northern lights could be of interest.
Held by local snapper Dave Parkhurt, the sessions allow tourists to try their hand at dog sled riding while taking pictures of the scenery around Anchorage and Mount McKinley.
Skiing, snowmobiling and flightseeing are also on the menu during the course.
Those feeling even more adventurous could take to the skies to enjoy a helicopter tour of the Knik River, which also includes options for mushing and mountain hiking.
"Although Alaska is justly famous for the annual Iditarod dog-team race, there are plenty of other things to see and do," the newspaper stated.
Mushing fans could choose to tie their trip in with the Last Great Race itself.
Held every March between Anchorage and Nome, the two-week event attracts some of the biggest stars of the mushing world, such as Lance Mackey and Jamaican rookie Newton Marshall.
