Mushers wishing to give their husky a healthy dog treat may wish to thumb through a new book.
Animal lover and volunteer Candace O’Connor has penned the Fairbanks Dog Park Cookbook, a tome filled with recipes for tasty nibbles.
She told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that she picked up many of the ideas for sled dog enthusiasts at a dog mushing meeting in the Alaskan town.
Ms O’Connor explained that some of the treats are for sweet-toothed huskies, while others will please animals with a taste for savoury nibbles.
Chocolate, grapes and raisins are not included in any of the recipes, as these are harmful to dogs’ health.
"You can make a dog cookie out of anything. All you need is something wet and something dry," the author remarked.
Husky owners may wish to closely monitor how many nibbles they give to their animals, to ensure they remain what they are supposed to be – treats.
According to the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain, even canines who are 5lbs too heavy can encounter health problems.
