Siberian husky joins in festival fun

Siberian husky dogs are more commonly associated with dog harnesses than rainbow-coloured tutus.

However, Sibe owner Stacey Ashford made an exception for one day when she took Aleu along to Birmingham’s Pride Festival over the weekend, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The theme park worker, who lives in Uttoxeter, explained it was an important day for her and partner Robyn – and she could not have attended without her Siberian husky by her side.

"It makes you feel happy to be here. It just brings the importance of equality to the fore," she remarked.

The event, which was celebrating its 14th year, attracted over 100,000 people from as far afield as the USA.

Although they are sometimes kept as pets, as in Aleu’s case, Siberian huskies are also popular working dogs.

Musher Shirley Deakin told the South Yorkshire Times they are highly intelligent animals which can switch on lights, open doors and dig tunnels under fences.

For these reasons, Sibe owners need to take special precautions to keep the animals safe such as having paved yards, she said.ADNFCR-2611-ID-19814228-ADNFCR
