Sled dog racers sign up for IPSSSDR

July 29th, 2010

Sled dog racers have rushed to secure a place on next year’s International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR).

According to race director Frank Easley, there has been a “phenomenal” amount of interest in the event, which runs in Wyoming from January 28th to February 5th 2011.

This is notable as demand for the 500-mile stage race had already prompted him to increase the number of teams from 20 to 25.

“The Wyoming race has developed a reputation in the mushing world because of our purse, the unique race route through Wyoming, and the dog-friendly format,” Mr Easley commented.

Mushers that are keen to take part have now missed out on the chance to compete, although teams that have expressed an interest will be put on a waiting list.

Iditarod and Yukon Quest winner Lance Mackey is among those expected to participate.

The sled dog racer was recently hailed by Lew Freedman of the Cordova Times as a hero, since he has overcome cancer to become one of the leading mushers in the world.
