Youngsters learn about Canicross at training camp

August 2nd, 2010

Young people have been able to keep fit by partaking in the Canicross run in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire in the past week.

The Young Kennel Club (YKC) took children and teenagers from the ages of eight to 15 on the cross-country run, which uses huskies to help them along the way.

According to the organisers, participants were able to strengthen the bond between themselves and their dogs during the event, as well as learn about the importance of exercise.

It formed part of the club’s National Training Camp, which ran from July 24th to 30th and was especially designed for young people with dogs to receive training.

Caroline Kisko, spokesperson for the Kennel Club, said: “Responsible dog ownership is hugely important to the Kennel Club and initiatives such as the YKC Training Camp create an early awareness with younger generations.”

It was recently revealed that one group of Canicross competitors are planning to take part in The Human Race, an event being sponsored by Men’s Fitness Magazine in September.
