SnowPaw’s Working Season – Sammy and James’s update

April 14th, 2011

This season, we have been concentrating on the Weight Pull championship held at Allerton Park. We had a fantastic start to the season with Lucien on the first competition of the season, equaling the UK record set of 2300lbs. He consistently pulled well throughout each competition, never pulling less than 2000lbs. He is the unbeaten 2010/2011 81-100lbs class champion. In March, he beat the UK record, pulling 2400lbs in just 40 seconds. Lucien gained both his Working Weight Pull Dog title (WWPD) and his Working Weight Pull Dog Excellent title (WWPDX) in his first season. Mina also had a good weight pull season, gaining her Working Weight Pull Dog title and has been improving throughout the year, pulling a personal best of 1800lbs.

We have also completed several treks this year, covering a minimum of 10 miles on each trip. Both Mina and Lucien completed their Working Team Dog titles (WTD) in March this year, and at the start of the working season, they both completed their Working Pack Dog titles (WPD) by carrying 30% of their bodyweight, using their Ruffwear Pallisades packs over four trips and a minimum of 10 miles on each trip. We did compete in a couple of ABSA rallies this year, but most unfortunately clashed with the weight pulls, but we still had a good season finishing 12th out of 25 teams after completing only 3 races.
