Before any musher attempts the Iditarod or the Yukon Quest, they have to run shorter qualifying races. The Willow Jr 100 is for those under 18 years of age who are not allowed in the qualifying races.

This race gives teens a chance to hone their dog mushing skills and test their abilities. Racing up the Talkeetna Mountains to Grampa Joe's halfway point, spending the night and then blasting back down in the morning gives them a taste of what longer races are all about.
