If you are not confident of building the scooter, please get an experienced bicycle technician to do it, otherwise this could cause injury
YOU WILL NEED:
ALLEN KEY; SPANNER/SOCKET SET (FOR STEM BOLT); TYRE PUMP
We would advise you assemble your scooter on carpet to avoid scratching if it should fall over during this process! Another pair of hands will also be helpful! Take everything out of the box carefully.
1. Place handlebar stem into scooter shaft. Make sure the forks are facing the right way- i.e. forwards. The stem bolt needs to be unwound to allow it to drop into the shaft. (Figure 1). Adjust handlebar height to what suits you, but don’t allow it to drop above the insert line, engraved into the metal stem.
2. Tighten bolt. Make sure the handlebar is aligned with the forks, - this can be adjusted once assembled. Then tighten the four bolts that hold the handlebars making sure that the serrated lines on the handlebars are inside the centre piece before tightening. Adjust the handlebars to an angle that suits you.
3. Insert Quick Release mechanism into the hub of the wheel (Figure 3 below shows the set up of this mechanism.) Important! Put the bar through the wheel with the spring’s narrowest point facing towards the hub. (Figure 4). One spring must sit on each side of the hub.
Put the spring and plastic cap on the ends (figure 5).
4. Make sure the front forks are facing the right way.
To insert front wheel, make sure the plastic cap is just on the thread of the quick release mechanism so that there is room for you to insert the wheel and disc onto the front fork.
Place a wheel with disc onto front fork, making sure the disc slides into the calliper. Once inserted, make sure the wheel is right up and into the fork, screw the plastic cap end of the quick release whilst also turning the other lever clockwise and pull the lever down until tight.
Figure 6 shows wheel and disc inserted
Test by spinning the wheel. There will be a slight grinding noise – this is usual until the pads wear in.
If you find the wheel does not spin well because of the pad grinding too much on the disc, then they need to be adjusted. This should not be case as they have already been tested. On the calliper, there is a screw on the top and bottom
If you slightly undo the screws one at a time, then you can slide the calliper forwards and backwards to allow the disc not to rub on the pads.
Once you have it set in the right place, make sure you tighten the screws right up tight. Remember, there will always be a slight grinding noise until the pads have bedded in. Important! Make sure all the screws are tight on the disc and the adjusting screws are tight on the calliper.
5. To fit the rear wheel, undo the allen bolt on the calliper whilst holding onto the brake cable and slacken it off to allow the wheel to go in. Make sure the nipple on the cable is not pulled off, or the cable may fray. Insert wheel with quick release mechanism – do this gently, it will go in. Make sure there is no air in the tyres at this point. Tighten the plastic cap on the quick release, and then pull lever down until tight. If it won’t go down, hold the cap, wind the lever and pull right down until it is right and tight.
Align the brake blocks with the wheel, making sure the arch of each block is facing upwards, pulling in the callipers and tightening brake blocks. Inflate the tyre then tighten calliper so that the blocks are just off the wheel. Test rear brakes until it is right.
Undo both allen bolts on the rear callipers again to loosen the brake cables. Then attach both cables to the brake levers. Tighten the calliper again so that the brake blocks are in correct braking position.
6. Set brake levers to the angle you want and tighten.
7. Put on the stand with the two nuts provided. They are self locking so you do not need nuts (figure 7).
8. Put on the padding protectors (Figure 8)
9. When attaching the brushbow, make sure washers are on either side of the brushbow.
Insert the brushbow into its position. Wind the cap and pull the lever to its furthest point, and brushbow should be tight.
You will find the top point of brushbow insert will not sit all the way down – this is cone shaped to prevent rattling.
10. Make sure everything is tight on the scooter.
IMPORTANT! Look after your discs as knocks can bend them.
It is advisable to wrap a little insulation tape around the brushbow towloop to prevent the paint wearing from the carabiner.
To adjust pads, see Figure 10 and slightly tighten the largest silver allen screw which will bring the pads inwards until wheel spins freely and brakes work correctly.
All nuts, bolts and screws are included. In the unlikely event of you finding anything is missing, please let us know and we will send them out to you on a next day delivery.
MAINTENANCE OF YOUR PAWTREKKER
• Clean and dry after each use.
• Spray with WD40 on all mechanical parts except brakes and rims.
• Include spraying on handlebar stem bolts/lever cables and calliper bolts on the brushbow to prevent rusting.
• The stand is only for propping up the scooter – not to take any weight or to hold the scooter when hooking up dogs - lay the scooter down on a soft verge to hook up dogs, to avoid damage and reduce chance of them dragging the scooter before you are ready.
• Do not store the scooter in direct sunlight as this can cause colour fading. We are not responsible for damage caused to the scooter during use, i.e. to paintwork, wheels, brakes.
